Sorry my California friends–especially those who might think of Mexico as a dirty, backwards place–the country kicks our asses in terms of consideration toward the environment.
Not only have I travelled through and stayed in many a bioreserve, protected park, or eco-lodge, now I am staying in a beach house that generates it’s own power and water, 100%. Conservation may be born from necessity, but people do it and, what’s refreshing, they don’t flap their gums about how great they are for it.
I know what you mean, I’ve been at Labnaha (it’s an Eco Park between Playa del Carmen and Tulum) and all the power comes from wind and solar cells!!
It’s amazing.
we saw much solar e gray water reclamation being used and basic, essential recycling while we were in Jalisco. also much non-buying/useless packaging-low consumption were witnessed. If you run across Raicilla (a type of moonshine) its worth trying chilled with a healthy squeeze of lime.
Moonshine? In the yucatan? Purveyor of moonshine awaits.
Yea-upon further investigation it seems raicilla is more on the west coast. something to do with the plants and climate.
